APF win Team C’ship

Pokhara, October 2:

Armed Police Force (APF) clinched the men’s team championship with four gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the 22nd Men’s and first Women’s National Boxing Tournament here today.

APF also bagged the best player awards in both the sections. Ajit Gurung and Sumitra Napit were adjudged the best male and female players respectively. Nepali Army finished second with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Sachin Raut of APF beat Bimal Kumar Singh of Kanchanpur to win the men’s 48kg gold and another APF boxer Anil Dahal defeated Dipendra Bachhunje of Nepali Army to bag the men’s 51kg gold. Devendra Thakuri of Nepali Army overcame Devendra Limbu of Sunsari to clinch the 54kg gold while Dinesh Shrestha of Nepal Police beat Amar Maharjan of Kavre to win the 57kg gold medal. Best Player of the tournament, Ajit Gurung took home the 60kg gold defeating Santosh Karki of Kaski in final.

Sushil Ghimire of APF won the men’s 64kg gold. The 10th South Asian Games silver medallist Ghimire overcame Bhupendra Bachhunje of Nepali Army in final. Likewise, Man Bahadur Gurung of Dhading claimed the 69kg gold outplaying Devendra Maharjan of APF, Bikash Pariyar of Nepali Army defeated Bikashbal Lama of APF to win the 75kg gold, Dipak Maharjan of Kathmandu overcame Bhim Bahadur Jora of Kailali to bag the 81kg gold, and Tek Bahadur Pun of Nawalparasi overcame Sitaram BK of Nepali Army to win the 91kg gold medal.

APF’s Mala Rai defeated Sammi Lama of Bhaktapur to win the women’s 46kg gold medal. Likewise, Tulasha Thapa of Kavre claimed the women’s 48kg gold defeating Maya Chaudhary of APF and Sumitra Napit beat Sabitri Lama for the women’s 50kg title.

Other gold medal winners include APF’s Sanju Lama in 52kg, Arati Thapa of Parsa in 54kg,

Minas Rai of Nepal Police in 57kg, Dipa Chhetri of APF in 60kg, Lila Pun of Kaski in the 63kg and Rishisara Thapa of Kaski in the 66kg section.
