BHAIRAHAWA: Nepali Army athletes Gajindra Rai, Sushil Kumar Shahi and Jitendra Danuwar claimed top three spots in the Open Half-Marathon here on Saturday.
Rai finished the 21km distance from Rupandehi's Maitighar Pipalbot to Jitgadh in one hour, six minutes and 50 seconds.
Shahi came second in 1:07:46, while Danuwar was third in 1:19:57. Top three athletes received Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
Khagendra Ranabhat, Sanjit Nepali and Ramesh Sijapati claimed top three spots respectively in men's 10km race, while Gita BK, Nirmala KC and Dhana Maya Bohara did so in women's section. Top three athletes in both categories earned Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
More than 400 athletes took part in the event organised to mark Army Day and Shivaratri. Mid-Western Division Chief Maj Gen Yam Prasad Dhakal, Butwal Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Khelraj Pandey and 22 Number Brigade Brig Gen Navaraj Gurung handed over prizes to the winners.
