Army rally to defeat Jawalakhel

Lalitpur, June 14

Tribhuvan Army Club came from a goal down to beat Jawalakhel Youth Club 2-1 in the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Tournament here at the ANFA Complex on Tuesday.

Abhisek Rijal and Prezen Tamang hit back with goals in either half after Sushant Chaudhary had scored the opening goal for JYC. Chaudhary put the JYC ahead in the 25th minute to stun the TAC, who woke up after conceding the goal. TAC’s relentless pressure finally paid off when Rijal headed home from the six-yard box to level the scores.

After TAC goalkeeper Arpan Karki made a couple of brilliant saves to frustrate JYC forward line, the Army team came up with a brilliant move 10 minutes into the match when Prazen Tamang met Suman Aryal’s cross before heading home the winning goal.

TAC coach Chakra Tamang said his boys took the match too lightly which made it difficult for themselves. “Boys’ lacked in coordination in the match and I think they took the match lightly,” he said.

JYC coach Naresh Thapa blamed the poor fitness level of the players for the loss. “We made a good start and were able to score an early goal as well. But the players looked tired as the match progresses,” said Thapa. “I am happy with the overall show of the team as we were not able to train for the last two days because of the rain,” Thapa said.
