London, May 12:

Arsenal thrashed Everton 7-0 in its penultimate Premier League match of the season on Wednesday — the club’s biggest win in nine years under manager Arsene Wenger.

Dennis Bergkamp scored one and helped set up three more while Robert Pires had two goals and Robin Van Persie, Edu, Patrick Vieira and Mathieu Flamini one apiece.

Arsenal secured second place behind champion Chelsea on Tuesday when third-place Manchester United lost 3-1 to the Blues.

Wednesday’s match was the first time Everton had played since securing fourth place in the league - and a European Champions League berth next season - when fifth-place Liverpool lost 3-1 to Arsenal on Sunday.

Bergkamp set up the first goal, crossing for Robin van Persie to score after nine minutes.

Pires added the second in the 11th minute, heading the ball over Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright. Bergkamp then set up Vieira for the third in the 37th minute.

After a move started by Bergkamp, Henry fed Pires to put Arsenal up 4-0 after 50 minutes.

Arsenal’s dominance continued. The Gunners were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute when Everton defender Lee Carsley was penalised for handball. Henry ceded the moment to Edu, who convert in his final game at Highbury.

Bergkamp scored in the 77th, controlling an aerial ball and beating Wright. Flamini added Arsenal’s final goal in the 85th.

Everton has conceded 14 goals in three matches against Arsenal this season.
