Athletes, judokas get cash rewards

KATHMANDU: Dr Khagendra Sports Foundation feted the 11th South Asian Games gold medallist and record setters with cash rewards on Saturday. The foundation rewarded the road race gold medallist Rajendra Bhandari with Rs 10,000 and also gave away Rs 5000 each to Keshari Chaudhary (high jump) and Dhirendra Chaudhary (110m hurdles) for setting new national record during the Dhaka meet.

Meanwhile, Chyangthali Club of Tikathali honoured two judokas with cash rewards. The club gave away Rs 4,000 each to judokas Rajan Joshi and Elin Maharjan for their bronze medal wins in international tournaments. While Rajan won bronze in the 11th SA Games in Dhaka, Elin claimed bronze in the fourth Rajiv Gandhi International Tournament in Jaipur. Four judokas — Pawan Kumar Raut (below 50kg), Fupulyamu Khatri Chhetri (below 63kg), Diwakar Basnet (below 55kg) and Sushmita Lawat (below 45kg) — selected for the Youth and Junior Judo Championships also received track-suits. The Championships is slated for April 30 to May 2 in Bangkok.
