Baitadi, Bhairahawa triumph

Bhairahawa, May 7:

Nabin Chand took five wickets as Region No 6 (Baitadi) beat Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) by 31 runs in the Under-17 National Cricket Tournament today.

Batting first, Baitadi were bowled out for 133 runs in 33.1 overs. No 10 batsman Shumsher Chand scored a quick fire unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls which included six fours and two sixes. Yogendra Khadka scored 24 runs, while Niraj Chand and Dev Narayan Jha made 14 and 15 runs respectively.

In reply, Nepalgunj were packed off for 102 runs in 35.4 overs, with Nabin Chand being the chief destroyer. Chand took 5-15 off eight overs.

Anupam Singh scored 40 runs and Bidhan Giri made 25, as others failed to reach the double-figure mark for Nepalgunj. Shumsher Cha-nd, who also took two wickets for Baitadi, was named the man of the match.

In other match, Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) defeated Region No 3 (Kathmandu) by two wickets.

Batting first, Kathmandu were bowled out for 178 runs in their allotted 40 overs. Kathmandu were reeling at 51/6 when skipper Gyanendra Malla came at the crease. But the Under-15 star played patiently and revived the innings scoring 86 runs. Except, Deepak Chhetri (18) and Prashant Anand (12), other failed to reach the double-figure mark.

For Bhairahawa, Nirmal Simgoura took three wickets and Rahdan Khan claimed two wickets.

In reply, Bhairahawa overcame the target losing eight wickets with just one ball to spare. Man of the match Nirmal Simgoura scored unbeaten 53 runs, while Shrawan Parajuli made 31. Saroj Adhikari and Subash Pradhan contributed 20 and 19 runs respectively.

On Sunday, Region No 1 (Biratnagar) will take on Region No 2 (Birgunj) and Kathmandu will play against Baitadi.
