Baitadi crush Region No 2

Kathmandu, September 22:

Region No 6 (Baitadi) thrashed Region No 2 (Birgunj) by 10 wickets and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) defeated Region No 3 (Kathmandu) by four wickets in the inaugural day matches of the Wai Wai Women’s National Cricket Tournament here at the TU Stadium today.

Birgunj were skittled out for just seven runs in 10 overs after they were elected to bat first. Priyanka Yadav, Shova Aale and Sabita Kashwaha scored one runs each, while other five came through sundries.

For Baitadi, woman of the match Ritu Kanojiya took three wickets conceding two runs in three overs, while Rekha Rawal and Anjali Chand claimed two wickets apiece.

In reply, Roshani Bohara scored unbeaten four in two balls as Baitadi reached eight without loss in just two balls. Other four runs came through wides.

Earlier, Kathmandu scored 62-9 in their allotted 20 overs after put into bat first. Their total was aided by 26 extra runs including 17 wides. Nepalgunj overcame the target losing six wickets in 17.2 overs.

Nira Rajopadhyaya (14) was the lone batswoman to score in double figures for Kathmandu. For Nepalgunj, Woman of the match Sita Rana Magar took two wickets giving away four runs in four overs, while Mary Thapa Magar took 2-11. Nary Thapa Magar and Samjhana Sharma pocketed one wicket each.

In reply, Samjhana Sharma scored an unbeaten 11 and Keshari Chaudhary remained undefeated on nine as Nepalgunj reached 63-6 with 16 balls remaining. Kathmandu bowlers conceded 26 extra runs that included 24 wides. Geeta Chudal, Sarita Magar and Sraddha Aryal took one wicket each for Kathmandu.
