Battle of Army, Police ends in stalemate

Kathmandu, November 19:

The battle between the two departmental teams Mahendra Police Club (MPC) and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) ended in a goalless draw in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

The Armymen missed a rare chance to beat the MPC despite completely dominating the game. “We missed a great opportunity to beat them (MPC) today,” said TAC coach Babukaji Dhaubanjar.

“They have won most of the matches played between us and today we deserved to win but our strikers let us down,” Dhaubanjar added. TAC skipper and goalkeeper Bikash Malla was satisfied with the way they played against the MPC but he also lamented the wasted opportunities.

MPC goalie Ritesh Thapa also played his part to deny TAC the three clear points making several good saves especially denying Chakra Tamang in the 29th minute. The Army team was also unlucky for not being awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute when it looked like Bikarna Shrestha was brought down inside the box.

MPC too had few chances only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Malla. Malla denied Parbat Pandey’s strike in the goal-mouth-melee in the first half injury time before acrobatically punching out Hari Khada’s freekick in the 52nd.

MPC assistant coach Anil Adhikari blamed his midfielders. “Midfield was not effective and we had disadvantage of height in the forward line.”
