Beckham recalled

Yarm, November 9:

David Beckham was recalled to the England squad for what could be Steve McClaren’s last games as England coach. The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder sprained right knee in August and missed England’s 3-0 victories against Israel and Russia at Wembley in September.

The former England captain also was out for England’s 2-1 defeat in Russia last month, which leaves qualification for the European Championship out of McClaren’s hands.

The final Group E match against Croatia on November 21 could be meaningless unless Russia fail to win in Israel.

England play a friendly in Austria next Friday, when Beckham will be hoping to add to his 97 caps. Owen Hargreaves is also back after being ruled out with injuries. Captain John Terry is ruled out through injuries, but vice-captain Gerrard should stand in.
