Bhattarai bags silver

KATHMANDU: Nepali athletes claimed three medals in the 61st Thailand Open Track and Field Championships in Thailand on Wednesday.

Saraswoti Bhattarai won two silver medals, while Amrita Mahato broke national record on her way to winning bronze in discuss throw. Bhattarai finished second in 800m race with the timing of two minutes and 18.7 seconds, while she took four minutes and 42 seconds to win silver in 1500m race.

Likewise, Mahato won discuss throw bronze medal with a distance of 40.31 metres, which was enough to set the new national record. A total of eight Nepali athletes are in Bangkok for a 40-day special training and all of them are participating in the September 6-10 event in Bangkok.
