Shrestha claims golf title

Kathmandu, April 29

Bijay Bahadur Shrestha won the title of the Everest Golf Challenge — Tan Sri Aseh Challenge Trophy 2017 — here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Shrestha accumulated 34 points to win the trophy and bagged return ticket to Kuala Lampur and other gift hampers. Madhav Simkhada finished second on count back after he was tied on 32 points with Purna Bahadur Rai. Simkhada scored 20 points on the back nine, while Rai had 19.

Tenzing Tsering, who had an albatross on the par-5 11th hole, won the gross section trophy with the score of 32 points and received mountain flight tickets for a couple from Yeti Airlines. Min Bahadur Raut bagged the senior section title with 30 points, while Dato Lawrence won the guest category trophy with 30 points and Dato Sri Ismail Ahmed came second with 28 points.

Ang Tshiring Sherpa won the closest-to-the-pin award and Prithivi Malla claimed the longest drive title.

The annual tournament, which was initiated with the objective of promoting golf tourism in Nepal, began in 2010. A total of 70 players, including 20 from Malaysia and two from India, participated in the tournament which was played under stableford 3/4 handicap format over 15 holes.

Casino Mahjong was the main sponsor of the event, while The Himalayan Times, Himalaya Airlines and Yeti Airlines were the co-sponsors. Advisor of Malaysia Nepal Business Council Tan Sri Aseh Bin Che Mat, President Dato Pardip Kumar Kukreja, Managing Director of Gokarna Forest Resort Ang Tshiring Sherpa and Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
