Kathmandu, May 25 :

Region No 2 (Birgunj) topped Group ‘B’ ahead of Region No 3 (Kathmandu) on better run rates after their match was washed out midway at the Tribhuvan University Stadium here today. Both the teams earned one point each.

Kathmandu was dismissed on 177 runs with one ball to spare in their allotted 50 overs. Sarad Vesawkar top-scored with 56 off 90 balls that included seven boundaries and a six. Raj Shrestha (21), Rom Shrestha (19) and Gyanendra Malla (18) also chipped in with valuable runs for Kathmandu.

Sanjam Regmi took 5-23 and Binod Das took two wickets for Birgunj. The heavy rain then washed out the Birgunj innings.

Also today, Region No 6 (Baitadi) was declared the Plate Champions after Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) refused to play the match.
