KATHMANDU: A 12-member Nepali boxing team is on Monday leaving for Thailand to participate in the ASBC U-22 Boxing Championship to be held in Bangkok from January 16-27.
Lal Prasad Upreti (46-48kg), Indra Bahadur Sunar (54-57kg) and Bijay Bata (80-86kg) will fight in men's section bouts, while Sushma Tamang (45- 48kg), Hema Rai (54-57kg) and Trisha Jabegu (70-75kg) will participate in women's category. Except for Sushma Tamang and Indra Bahadur Sunar, other boxers are taking part in international tournament for the first time.
Coaches Deepak Maharjan and Sandeep Shrestha and team manager Om Narayan Shrestha will accompany the boxers to Thailand.
Likewise, Pushkar Raj Panta will take part in international technical officer course, while Ram Chandra Thapa Magar and Dhana Kumar Mainali will participate in AIBA 2-Star Judge Course in Thailand. Players from 30 countries will take part in the championship.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising and Nepal Boxing Association President Ram Awale bade farewell to the team on Sunday.
