KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18

A three-member boxing team is on Tuesday leaving for Uzbekistan to participate in the ASBX U-22 men's and Women's Boxing Championship slated for January 20- 30 in Tashkent.

Sushma Tamang will fight in women's below-48kg weight category in the championship, while chief coach Prakash Thapa Magar and national coach Nabin Tandukar will accompany the boxer to Uzbekistan.

Tamang, who won gold medal in the Prakash Dahal Memorial second National Boxing Tournament, had made it to the quarter-finals in the World Youth Boxing Championship in Lithuania.

Currently, she is at the sixth place in the world junior ranking. Minister for Youth and Sports Maheshwor Jung Gahatraj bade farewell to the team on Monday.

Nepal Boxing Association President Ram Awale and Senior Vice-president Arjun Bahadur KC were also present on the occasion.
