Sherpa wins golf title

Kathmandu, November 18

Capt Norbu Sherpa won the title of the Baarhakhari Corporate Golf Tournament here at Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, Sherpa earned 42 points to claim the overall trophy along with 24-carat golden golf ball. The four-handicap amateur golfer carded four birdies on the first, third, fourth and 12th holes and faced bogeys on the last two holes.

Samir Acharya finished second on count back after he was tied on 40 points with Madhav Simkhada. Acharya scored 19 points on the back nine, while Simkhada had 17 points. Acharya received two-way tickets to Dubai from Himalaya Airlines.

Former national football team member and Manang Marshyangdi Club skipper Tashi Dong won the gross section award with 39 points. Dong carded four birdies and faced a bogey in his round and also bagged the most birdies award on count back after he was tied with Capt Sherpa. Dong received two-way tickets to Dubai from Himalaya Airlines.

Rekha Ghimire lifted the women’s section trophy with 34 points, while Pratima Sherpa came second with 30 points. Likewise, Lt Gen KNS Thapa bagged the senior category award on count back after he was tied on 34 points with Madhav Acharya.

Also, Tashi Tshiring won the longest drive award and Phintso Ongdi Lama, who missed the Hole-in-One award of Tata Zest by a foot, bagged closest-to-the-pin trophy. A total of 84 golfers took part in the event organised by Baarhakhari Media under the sponsorship of NIC Asia Bank and supported by Tata Motors and Himalaya Airlines.

Chief of the Army Staff Gen Rajendra Chhetri, Magsaysay award winner Dr Sanduk Ruit, Sipradi Trading CEO Rajan Babu Shrestha, Civil Group Chairman Iccha Raj Tamang, DIG Sarbendra Khanal, IMS Group Chairman Dipak Malhotra, Siddhartha Bank CEO Shambhu Gautam, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire, Baahrakhari Media MD Gyaneshwor Acharya, Cheif Editor Pratik Pradhan and NSJF President Mahesh Acharya handed over the prizes to the winners.
