Chaugain propels CAN XI

Kathmandu, June 30:

CAN President XI defeated Australian Old Collegians by 109 runs in the first of the three-match Twenty20 cricket series here at the TU Stadium today.

Electing to bat first, President XI accumulated 162-7 in 20 overs and restricted the visitors to a paltry 53 runs in 13 overs. Opener Kanishka Chaugain seemed in good touch, scoring 55 off 42 balls that included one four and four sixes.

Yashwant Subedi made 27-ball 25 hitting one four and one six, while Gyanendra Malla scored 24-ball 32 including one four and two sixes. Rahul Kumar BK hit three sixes in his 8-ball 21, while Dhirendra Chand scored nine runs off just four balls including a six.

Devon Singh took 3-23 off three overs for the Australian team, while Danny Gough, Richard Dhalloran and Terry Sharp claimed one wicket each.

In reply, the visitors were never in contention as they lost wickets in regular interval. Ben Cole (18) was the only one to score in double figures. Rahul Kumar BK was the pick of the Nepali bowlers taking three wickets, while Dhirendra Chand took two.
