London, February 13:

Eidur Gudjohnsen’s second-half goal against 10-man Everton lifted league-leading Chelsea to a 1-0 victory on Saturday, giving the Blues a 12-point lead as they march to their first league title in 50 years.

Everton stayed with Chelsea in the first half at Goodison Park despite playing a man short. James Beattie was sent off in the eighth minute for head-butting defender William Gallas.

The Iceland striker scored on a tap-in in the 69th — his 11th of the season — to give Chelsea 68 points with only 11 league games remaining. Man United has 56 with defending champion Arsenal on 54. Everton has 48 followed by Liverpool (43).

In other Premier League games: Birmingham 2, Liverpool 0; Blackburn 3, Norwich 0; Portsmouth 1, Aston Villa 2; Bolton 0, Middlesbrough 0.

In FA Cup fourth round replays, Brentford won 1-0; Fulham beat Derby 4-2; and Tottenham beat West Brom 3-1.

Fulham won with two goals in 30 minutes of extra time after Paul Peschisolido scored in the 86th for Derby to even the score.

Chelsea is on track for four titles. The Blues play next weekend in the fifth round of the FA Cup, then go to Barcelona for a key Champions League match on February 23. Then comes the League Cup final on February 27 in Wales, against Liverpool.

Spanish La Liga:

MADRID: Samuel Eto’o scored his 17th goal of the season to give FC Barcelona a 4-1 win over Zaragoza and extend its lead to seven points atop the Spanish league.

Eto’o combined well with Ronaldinho to ensure Barcelona remained comfortably ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.

In a late match, third-placed Valencia hosted Deportivo La Coruna. Barcelona’s match began with Zaragoza’s Delio Toledo scoring an own goal in the second minute.

Barcelona doubled the lead in the 30th minute from a move that appeared to be offside when Ronaldinho chipped an overhead pass to Eto’o.

Ronaldinho set up a second in the 39th minute, again lobbing the ball over the defence and into the path of Eto’o, who controlled it and in turn lobbed the hapless Falcon.

Galletti pull tried to rally Zaragoza in the 63rd minute, taking control of the ball outside the penalty area and scoring with a right-footed strike.

Mexico fullback Rafael Marquez headed in Xavi Hernandez’s corner in the 71st minute for Barcelona’s final goal.

Italian Serie A:

MILAN: Sinisa Mihajlovic scored twice on a pair of curling free kicks and Inter Milan beat AS Roma 2-0 at San Siro, extending its Serie A unbeaten streek to 24 matches and keeping alive its title chances.

Sinisa scored in the 23rd minute and in second-half injury time to give him 28 league goals on free kicks. Inter’s ninth victory moved the Milan club to third place with 42 points, eight behind Serie A leader Juventus. Second-place AC Milan has 48.

In another match, Fabio Liverani scored in the 89th minute to give Lazio a 2-1 victory over last-placed Atalanta.
