Chitwan Dojang finish first

Kathmandu, August 16:

Chitwan Dojang won three gold and a bronze and finished first in the Central Region Taekwondo Competition, organised by Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) under the auspices of National Sports Council (NSC), here today. Khaireni, with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, came second while Dhanusha Dojang stood third with three medals — a one each gold, silver and bronze. Amit Chhetri of Sankata, who won Fly weight gold medal beating Ganesh Thapa, and Yan Kumari Chaulagain of Bagdev, who outplayed Bima Rai of Kathmandu to win the Finn weight gold medal, were declared the best fighters in men’s and women’s sections respectively. In the men’s sections finals, Bishnu Neupane of Dallu beat Ashok Khadka of Mulpani in Finn weight, Ram Sharan Chaudhary defeated Bir Bahadur Tamang in Bantam weight, Sanjeev Pradhan outplayed Dipendra Maharjan in Feather weight, and Rajesh Shrestha overwhelmed Ramji Giri in Light weight.

Likewise, Prashant Acharya beat Sanjeev Kumar Bachhar in Middle weight, Sunil Singh knocked out Janak Lal Chaulagain in Heavy weight, and Faken Mahato outplayed Shiva Kumar Shrestha in Walter weight categories. In women’s section finals, Padma Gurung beat Renu Prajapati in Fly weight, Ayesha Shakya won the Bantam weight gold beating Gayatri Shrestha, Sarada Tamang defeated Nima Kattel in Feather weight, and Sobita Bhattarai outplayed Sara Maya Tamang in Light weight sections. NTA vice president Binod Singh, general secretary Deep Raj Gurung, and treasurer Rabiraj Singh gave away prizes.

Dhaulagiri Cup

KATHMANDU: Dhorpatan Sports Training Centre is organising the Dhaulagiri Cup Open Male Volleyball Tournament at Tundikhel ground from August 19-23 on the occasion of the 78th birthday of Queen Mother Ratna. In all, eight teams are taking part in the tournament.

Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre, Mahendra Police Club, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Rekha Sports Club are in Group A, ad Gyanendra APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Blue Moon Club and Lahure Club are in Group B. According to the organisers, the top four teams will qualify for the Dhorpatan Cup International Male Volleyball Tournament to be held in Kathmandu in December.

Gymnastics

KATHMANDU: Nishan Gymnastics Club in association with National Unity Council is organising the third Bal Inter-school Gymnastics Tournament on August 21 to mark the 78th birthday of Queen Mother Ratna and 41st Children’s Day. In all, 165 athletes, including 125 boys and 40 girls, are taking part in four events — Vaulting, Floor, Table and All-round — at the Multi-purpose Martial Arts Centre.

Shooting

LALITPUR: Nepal Shooting Association is organising the third Inter-school Birthday Cup Shooting Tournament from August 30 here at the King Birendra International Sports Complex. Shooters from more than 35 schools will take part in the tournament. In this connection, the NSA is conduction the training for all the participants from August 17-28, said the NSA is a release today.
