Chyasal win Chandragiri Gold Cup

Kathmandu, May 5

Chyasal Youth Club defeated Saraswoti Youth Club 2-0 and won the title of the second Roj Bahini Chandagiri Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Naikap grounds today.

Foreign recruits Maxwell Ellon and Junior scored one goal each in the second half after both the teams failed to break the deadlock in the first half.

Ellon, who replaced another foreign recruit of Chyasal in the first half, put Chyasal ahead in the 55th minute with a header, while Junior sealed the victory in the 71st minute. Saraswoti were reduced to 10 men in the 63rd minute when Bishal Magar received second yellow card of the match. Champions Chyasal received Rs 600,000 along with the trophy, while Saraswoti got Rs 300,000. Chyasal skipper Amir Shrestha was named the best player of the tournament and he received Rs 30,000, while his teammates Armand and Milan Rai were the joint highest scorers with two goals and they shared the cash reward taking home Rs 15,000 each.

A total of eight teams took part in the tournament organised by Deepshikha Youth Group under the sponsorship of Roj Bahini Srijanshi Samuha, an NGO working for women welfare.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, Deepshikha Youth Group President Ravi Budhathoki, Tournament Coordinator and former national team member Ramesh Budhathoki and Roj Bahini President Madhav Bhandari handed over the prizes to the winners.
