Czink, Safarova book Quebec WTA final showdown

QUEBEC CITY: Melinda Czink continued her dominace of Aleksandra Wozniak as she downed the third-seeded Canadian 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the WTA Bell Challenge.

Czink, the fifth seed from Hungary, has now won all four of her meetings with Wozniak, a head-to-head that includes two ITF circuit victories and a WTA Tour triumph on grass in Birmingham this year.

Czink's latest triumph over Wozniak on Saturday took just under an hour and put her into a championship showdown against fourth-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova, who beat eighth-seeded German Julia Goerges 6-3, 6-2.

Safarova fought off eight break points in a semi-final lasting an hour and 17 minutes, and broke serve three times to reach her first final of the season.

"I'm really happy because this is my first final this year," Safarova said. "I feel like I'm playing pretty good and you always feel good when you're winning.

"I'm a little tired now, but I will be fine for the final tomorrow. I just hope I'll be ready to play my best against either one of my potential opponents."

Czink came into the semi-finals nice and fresh, after an abbreviated quarter-final against top-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova.

Petrova, the defending champion, retired after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker on Friday because of illness.
