Dauphins bag Budha Subba title

Dauphins Family Club of Cameroon won the title of the 21st Budha Subba Red Bull Gold Cup here at the Dharan Stadium today.

Dauphins, who won Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup last week, defeated hosts Dharan Football Club 3-2 in tie-breaker to claim their second trophy. With the title, Dauphins received Rs 800,000, while Dharan finished as runners-up for the fifth time and got Rs 400,000.

The match was decided on penalties after both the teams failed to score in regulation period. Jo Angoula, Petnga and Yannick Owona converted from the spot for Dauphins, while Ekwerm and Biyik Biyik shot wide. Only Dorje Tamang and Prakash Budhatoki scored for Dharan, whereas Yogesh Rai shot wide and Dauphins goalkeeper Priso Ndjanga saved the strikes from Hemanta Thapa Magar and Milan Rai. Dharan goalkeeper Binay Shrestha was named the man of the match and he earned Rs 15,000.

Dharan, who had made it to the final after 12 years, dominated the individual awards. Defender Bishnu Sunuwar was declared the best player of the tournament and he received Dio scooter. His teammates Manoj Rai, Hemanta Thapa Magar and Milan Rai were named the best defender, midfielder and striker respectively and they got Rs 25,000 each.

Likewise, Njama Yannick of Dauphins was the highest scorer of the tournament with two goals and he received Rs 35,000. Priso Ndjanga was named the best goalkeeper and Aurel Ename was declared the best coach and they got Rs 25,000 each.

A total of eight teams took part in the tournament organised by Sunsari District Football Association. Chief Minister of Province1 Sherdhan Rai handed over the prizes to the winners.
