Deep Jyoti dominate
Kathmandu, July 7:
Deep Jyoti Secondary School reigned supreme at the Inter-school Annapurna Open Chess Tournament here on Monday.
Three Deep Jyoti players — Nabin Kumar Jaiswal, Tara Ghale and Prashant Thapa — won the championships organised by the Annapurna Secondary School. Nabin Kumar claimed the Senior Boys’ title with 6.5 points while Prashant Vashima (5.5 pts) and Niraj Shrestha (5 pts) finished second and third respectively.
Tara Ghale won the final round against Annapurna’s Prativa Tuladhar to claim the Girls’ championship. Binita of Annapurna School ended up as runner up with six points. Prativa came third with five points.
Prashant Thapa overcame his schoolmate Prajwol Simkhada in the decisive final round to win the Junior Boys’ title. Both Prashan and Prajwol finished with equal six point but the former won the championship on a better progressive points. Prashant had 27 progressive points, two more than Prajwol. Bibek Lama of Himalayan Secondary School also had six points but finished third after earning 24 progressive points.
