KATHMANDU, APRIL 15
Dhangadhi Football Club today signed national team skipper and goalkeeper Kiran Kumar Limbu (Chemjong) as iconic player and Yugal Kishor Rai as head coach for the upcoming Nepal Super League.
Dhangadhi FC, owned by Go Dreamers Pvt Ltd, have already acquired national team member Bishal Shrestha as marquee player and Nigerian Tope Fuja as coach, while they bought 14 players from auction. "We have already started our preparation and we are glad to add Limbu and Rai to strengthen the squad," said owner Subash Shahi at a press meet.
Limbu lead the national team to Three Nations Cup title at the Dasharath Stadium last month, while he was named the Player of the Week by Asian Football Confederation earlier this month. "We are excited to welcome Limbu and Rai in the team," said Shahi. "After cricket, we have extended our association with football and we would like to thank everyone for the support," added Shahi, who started franchise-based Dhangadhi Premier League and introduced players' auction in Nepali sports.
Iconic player Limbu said he was super excited to make his comeback in domestic football through Dhangadhi FC in Nepal Super League. "I spent five years with various clubs in foreign leagues and now I am making my comeback in Nepal's domestic football," said Limbu. "I believe the NSL will be a turning point in Nepali football and it will ultimately help in the development of the sport."
Head coach Rai said the team was looking forward to playing beautiful football.
"The NSL is a new beginning in Nepali football and there are lots of challenges in the first edition," said Rai. "The tournament is the start of new era in Nepali football and I urge all stakeholders to patiently wait for some time as the future is bright," he added. "We have a very short time period for preparation but we will try our best to deliver beautiful football and win matches," added Rai.
A total of seven teams are taking part in inaugural edition of the event organised by Nepal Sports Event and Management Pvt Ltd under the sponsorship of Khukri.
The event is scheduled to kick off at the Dasharath Stadium on April 24.
