Thapa claims Nescafe Gold Open

Kathmandu, May 20

Dhruba Thapa won the title of the second Nescafe Gold Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, the eight-handicap amateur golfer Thapa accumulated 40 points to finish first. Sonam Ghale came second on count back after he was tied on 39 points with Prakash Gurung. While Ghale scored 20 points on the back nine, Gurung earned 19 on the latter half of his round.

Tashi Tshiring won the gross section title with 35 points and he also bagged the most birdies award for carding five birdies. Likewise, Rekha Ghimire won the women’s section trophy with 33 points, while Pratima Sherpa finished second with 27 points.

Maj Gen Daman Bahadur Ghale lifted the senior category title on count back after he was tied on 31 points with Consul General of Mongolia TG Shrestha. Tanush Sanghai emerged victorious in junior section with 34 points, whereas Devansh Agrawal (33) finished second. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus won the longest drive award, while Suhrid Ghimire lifted the closest-to-the-pin trophy.

A total of 99 players participated in the second edition of the tournament organised by Chokhani Enterprises, the importers of Nescafe Gold in Nepal. Business Manager of Nescafe Gold Varindra Sewak, South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Yong Sik, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan, Counsellor-Commerce at the Embassy of India N Ram Prasad and Proprietor of Chokani Enterprises Sanjay Chokani handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
