Dipendra steers CAN to easy win

Kathmandu, March 25:

Opener Dipendra Chaudhary struck a superb century to guide CAN Board-XI to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Merylebone Cricket Club (MCC) team during the third and final 50-over friendly match here at the TU Stadium today.

Electing to bat first, MCC made 160-9 in 50 overs before CAN Board surpassed the total losing one wicket in 30.4 overs. The visitors were reeling at 55-6 in the 26th over but the 72-run run for the seventh wicket between Keith Newell and Keith Parsons helped their team pose a respectable total.

Newell made a patient 54 and struck five fours in his 112-ball innings. Parsons scored 39 off 63 balls including four hits to fence. Matt Walker remained unbeaten on 10 and Peter King not out 18 that included two six and a four. Binod Das was the pick of the CAN bowlers with 3-38. Skipper Paras Khadka (2-11) and Basanta Regmi (2-32) also claimed two wickets each while Shakti Gauchan snared one.

In reply, CAN lost their opener Paresh Lohani (four) at 18-1 but Dipendra and Shakti Gauchan steered their team to easy victory. Dipendra completed his century in 96 balls and remained unbeaten on 107 off 98 balls. He struck four six and 14 fours. It was the second century for Dipendra against the same opponent. He had scored 103 against the MCC Team that last toured Nepal in 2003. Gauchan made 35 from 76 balls and hit four boundaries. Peter King (1-50) claimed the only wicket to fall.

Now the two teams will play a three-day match beginning from Friday.
