Either withdraw NSC appointment, or quit: UML to Sports Minister
KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML on Friday expressed reservations over Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel's performance in the government.
The party has exerted pressure on Minister Paudel to either backtrack from his decision regarding the appointment of Keshav Kumar Bista as the Member-Secretary of National Sports Council or step down from the ministerial responsibilities.
Minister Paudel, who took up his current ministerial portfolio from the party, is accused of flouting the party's policy and directives.
Paudel on Thursday had unilaterally picked Bista as the NSC boss, apparently without consulting the party and breaching the tradition of appointing the Member Secretary from the cabinet.
Bista, who is also the acting president of Nepal Sports Foundation, sister wing of CPN-UML, was suspended from the Nepali Sepak takraw team in October last year after he was found guilty of helping a Nepali athlete flee in South Korea during the 17th Asian Games.
UML Central Office Secretary Krishna Gopal Shrestha said it was wrong for any minister representing the party in the government to take self-willed step and indulge in political appointments.
Speaking to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Shrestha said the party was not satisfied with Minister Paudel for what he had done.
