Eusébio, who was born in Mozambique, is synonymous with football in Portugal. He joined Benfica as a 19-year-old in 1961 and scored twice in the European Cup final that year. The Black Pearl, as he was known, appeared on the losing side in three finals but enjoyed his greatest moment in 1966, when he scored nine goals as Portugal finished third in that year’s World Cup in England.
