PARIS: French media are reporting that French tennis player Mathieu Montcourt had died at the age of 24.

The French tennis federation said Tuesday they had received news of Montcourt's death, but could give no further details immediately, spokesman Christophe Proust said by telephone.

"We are all devastated," Proust said. "We have only heard that he was found dead in his stairwell last night. None of us can believe this has happened." French media reported that Montcourt, ranked 119, was found dead by his girlfriend on Monday night.
