GEMS, Xavier complete quarter-final lineup

GEMS and Xavier International advanced to the quarter-finals of the Ncell U-18 Inter-college Basketball Tournament at Nepali Army Sports Complex here today.
With these two teams, the quarter-final line-up has been completed. Gems will face Golden Gate College, while Xavier International College meet Morgan College. In other quarter-final fixtures, Liverpool will take on Times College, and Learning Realm International College will meet Prime College. The quarter-finals will be played on September 9-10 at same venue.
In the day’s first match, GEMS defeated White House College 47-30 riding on 20 points from Bishesh Khadka. GEMS took hold of the game from first period and never looked back. GEMS took 16-8 lead in the first period and extended it to 12 points when they won the second quarter 14-10.
GEMS and White House scored six points each in the third period before the former returned to winning ways, taking the final period 11-6. Khadka was awarded with the best player’s award.
Likewise, Xavier International thrashed Capital College and Research Centre (CCRC) 56-37 with best player of the match Tsewang G Bista scoring 19 points for the winning side. Xavier opened with a 11-9 lead and took the second quarter 12-11 to take three-point lead by the half time. Xavier dominated the third period 14-6 and took the final quarter 19-11 to book their place in the quarter-finals.
In the day’s last game, Ideal Model College came from behind to defeat DAV College 52-43 riding on 20 points from Anish Gurung, who was later awarded with the best player’s trophy.
DAV started well in the match taking a 14-12 score before Ideal made it 23-all when they won the second period 11-9. Ideal then opened up a huge 19-point lead when they scored 25 points and restricted DAV to just six in the third quarter. DAV outplayed Ideal Model 14-4 in the final period but that was not enough for them to avert the loss.
