Ghanshyam’s Golden Jubilee of Golf
Kathmandu, November 15:
Retired Maj Gen GB Limbu scored 35 points to win the 1-9 handicap category title of the Ghanshyam’s Golden Jubilee of Golf Tournament here at the Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club today. Maj NJ Rayamajhi finished runner up with 33 points.
Retired Lt Col Bharat Acharya won the 10-18 handicap category with 39 points. Retired Brig Gen BB Thapa came second with 36 points. Raj
Pradhan won the best gross award (30 points).
J Adhikari won the 19-24 handicap category with 31 points, while retired Brig Gen Gaurav SJB Rana finished second with 30 points.
Kesang Lama claimed the ladies section award with
16 points ahead of Eu Hazur Thapa (15 points).
Retired Gen P SJB Rana and retired Lt Gen CB Gurung came first and second respectively in the senior section, while KJ Baral won
the super senior section ahead of MP Kesvan. Amongst the junior golfers, G Rana came first and Nirab Koirala finished second.
Prasanna Upreti had the best front nine with 20 points and Acharya got the second best award on count back.
Lt Gen CB Gurung bagged the most birdies award (three), Gopal Chitrakar the longest drive, Madan Rana the closest to the pin and retired Maj SK Rai the best sportsmanship awards.
In all, 104 golfers took part in the two-day event organised by Ghanshyam Thapa to celebrate his Golden Jubilee of Golf. Chief of the Army Staff Rukmangud Katuwal gave away the prizes. Ghanshyam Thapa, the first pro of Nepal and former president of Nepal Professional Golfers Association, thanked everyone for their support to make the event a success. Thapa is also organising a pro tournament from December 9-11.
Meanwhile, Deepak Thapa Magar was honoured for winning the Surya Nepal Masters in 2007, while BB Shahi was feted for being Ghanshayam Thapa’s World Cup partner in 1975 and 1977. Shambhu Acharya was recognised for his support to the golf in Nepal, Ram Bahadur Nagarkoti for being
the longest serving staff of RNGC (50 years), Robin Marston for being the most regular golfing partner and Ronald Fream for his consultation for Golf Architecture.
