Goals galore as Bahrain U-16 warm up
LALITPUR: The visiting Under-16 national football team of Bahrain registered a comprehensive win showering 11 goals to Shree Kumari Youth Club in a warm up match here today.
Held at the Buddhi Bikash Mandal grounds at Lagankhel, the Bahrain team had no trouble scoring against the ‘B’ Division club of Kathmandu, Shree Kumari, who were unable to match up with the pace of the visiting side. Bahrain scored five goals in the first half and added six more in the latter half.
Bahrain are one of the six teams to play in the AFC U-16 Championship Group B qualifiers slated for October 5-15 in Kathmandu. Hosts Nepal, Iran, Lebanon, Bahrain, Maldives and Tajikistan are the other teams in the group. After the round-robin league, the top two teams will qualify for the finals.
In the U-16 qualifiers, Nepal will play Lebanon on October 5 before taking on Maldives two days later. On October 10, the hosts will take on Iran and play Bahrain on October 12. In the last league match on October 15, Nepal will take on Tajikistan.
Nepal are also hosting the AFC U-19 Championship Group ‘A’ qualifiers from October 25 to November 4 in Kathmandu. Tajikistan, Jordon, Yemen, Palestine and Kyrgyzstan are the other teams in the group.
