KATHMANDU: The 10th Gokarna Open amateur golf tournament is slated for Saturday at the Gokarna Golf Club. Gokarna Forest Resort is organising the event on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the course, which was inaugurated on May 29, 1999 with the Gokarna Open. In all, 123 players including 15 women and 21 senior golfers are taking part in the event to be played over 18 holes under the Stable ford 3/4 handicap format. The event will feature three categories — men, women and senior (above 60). The champion will earn a trip to London, while other winners will receive gift hampers from the organisers and the sponsors. Suhrid Ghimire is the defending champion of the tournament. The organisers will also give away the best gross, longest drive, closest to the pin and best sportsmanship awards. Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd is the main sponsor of the event, while Pepsi, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Etihad Airways and Lowenbrau are the other partners of the tournament. The organisers will also award the winners of the last year’s Club Championship on the occasion.
