Golden Gate defend title

LALITPUR: Golden Gate International College defeated Trinity College to defend the GAA sixth Fr Watrin Men’s Basketball Tournament title here today.

In a high scoring final at the St Xavier’s School in Jawalakhel, defending champions Golden Gate defeated Trinity College 100-87 riding on 35 points from Sushil Gurung. Golden Gate managed to lead all four quarters despite a spirited fightback from Trinity.

Golden Gate earned a two point lead in the first quarter (27-25) and netted four points more (26-22) than Trinity in the second. Going into the third quarter with a six point, Golden Gate again extended their lead by three more points scoring 28 to that of Trinity’s 25. A four-point lead in the final quarter (24-20) gave Golden Gate second consecutive title of the event.

Trinity’s Gajendra Karki put some valiant effort posting 28 points that included six three pointers. Sushil, who scored a magnificent 55 points in the quarter-finals, was declared the highest scorer of the tournament. Wisdom Pandey of Trinity was declared the Most Valuable Player. The tournament, an annual programme of the Godavari Alumni Association (GAA), is played in the memory of late Fr Eugene L Watrin.
