Golden Gate, Prime win basketball titles

Kathmandu, August 6

Golden Gate and Prime won the titles of the NeBA President 3X3 National Level Open Basketball Tournament here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

Golden Gate ‘B’ won the men’s category title, while Prime ‘D’ claimed the women’s category title of the two-day competition.

Golden Gate ‘B’ defeated their ‘A’ team 21-20 in the final match. Ashim Shrestha and Rajiv Joshi contributed seven points each for the winning side.

In the women’s category final, Prime ‘D’ saw off their ‘A’ team 13-11 riding on Lunibha Singh’s 10 points. The men’s category champions Golden Gate ‘B’ got Rs 40,000 and the runners-up Golden Gate ‘A’ earned Rs 20,000, while women’s category winners Prime ‘D’ and runners-up Prime ‘A’ got Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Rajiv Joshi of Golden Gate ‘B’ and Lunibha Singh of Prime ‘D’ were named the most valuable players of the tournament.

A total of 60 teams — 48 in men’s and 12 in women’s sections — took part in the event organised by Lalitpur District Basketball Association.

Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Nepal Basketball Association President Lama Tendi Sherpa, and Nepal Badminton Association President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha among others handed over the prizes to the winners.
