Golf teams leave for China, B’desh
Kathmandu, February 28
A two-member Nepali team today left for China to participate in the 10th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final to be held at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzen from March 2-4.
Shiva Kumar Majhi (U-21) and Tenzing Tsering (U-16) had earned berths by winning the age-group titles in the Faldo Series Nepal Championship at the Gokarna Golf Club in September last year. Majhi had won the 17-21yrs group, while Tsering claimed the 12-16yrs section. Former top amateur golfer and father of Tenzing, Tashi Tsering accompanied the players to China. Another qualifier, Pratima Sherpa, who had won girls’ section title, won’t participate in Final in the absence of passport.
Meanwhile, national team members Arun Tamang and Tanka Bahadur Karki left for Dhaka to participate in the Runner Group 31st Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship slated for March 2-5 at the Kurmitola Golf Club. Team manager Tashi Ghale, General Secretary of Nepal Golf Association, will join the golfers in Dhaka on Monday.
Golf coach from United States of America, Nicholas Trice conducted a three-day special training for the four golfers at the Gokarna Golf Club. NGA President Madhukar Yakthumba bade farewell to the teams at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Sunday.
