Gurung beats Ligutan in nail-biting final

Suman Gurung of Freedom Exports beat Christopher Ligutan of Ask Me in the nail-biting final of the second Corporate Snooker Tournament here today.
The winner was decided only in the final frame as both the players presented their strong determination till the end. Gurung, who also finished as the highest breaker with 38 points, won the tournament 35-90, 68-37, 66-47, 38-83, 37-87, 72-24, 63-35, 36-94, 79-33.
The final was delayed for more than an hour following Pradhan’s protest against his opponent Gurung in the semi-finals. Pradhan filed a complaint with the organisers alleging Gurung as an outsider and not an employee of Freedom Export. The final resumed after Gurung produced the evidence.
Earlier, Ligutan beat Ramesh Rana of British Gurkhas Nepal 5-2 in the semi-final. Ligutan took the first two frames 65-49, 83-41 but Rana narrowed the margin to 2-1 with a 46-79 victory in the third frame. Ligutan maintained the two-set lead winning the fourth frame 48-41 and lost the next 38-57. Ligutan then won the sixth frame 98-12 to enter the final.
In the second semi-final, Gurung beat Bishwo Man Pradhan of J & T Associates 5-1. Gurung lost the first frame 54-66 but then won the next four games to book a place in final. Gurung won the four frames 98-29, 70-41, 91-14 and 97-36.
The tournament was organised by Annapurna Post in association with Radisson Hotel. Everest Bank and Himalayan Distillery were the main sponsors while Krishi Premura was the co-sponsor. The event was supported by Club Himalaya, Photo Concern, KGH Hotels and Yeti Airlines. Image Channel and Image FM were the official media partners of the event.
