Gurung called for trial in UK
POKHARA: National and New Road Team (NRT) striker Anil Gurung is heading for England on Wednesday to try his luck at the Chelsea and Woking Football Club.
“Gurung will play upto four trail matches during his stay in the UK and could join the either of the teams if he impresses them,” said Sahara Club Pokhara and Sahara Club (UK) in a press meet here on Thursday. Chelsea is the Premier League club while
Woking was relegated to Blue Square South from Conference National this season.
It could not be ascertain which level in the Chelsea club Gurung was going to go for a trial. National team regular Gurung, 21, is the product of Sahara Academy. “It is a great honour for the Nepali football to have such a wonderful opportunity,” said Sahara Club Pokhara treasurer Dilip Kumar Gurung.
“I feel really fortunate to have the opportunity,” said Gurung, adding that he would cash in on the once-in-a-life chance. Sahara Club vice-president Keshav Baral expressed pride that their product was getting the wonderful opportunity.
Meanwhile, an I-League club, a top tier Indian league football, has also shown interest in Gurung. Vice-president and spokesperson of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Lalit Krishna Shrestha confirmed that newly promoted I-League club Lajong FC of Shillong was inquiring about the striker. According to Shrestha, Gurung had impressed the club while playing Governor’s Cup in Sikkim.
