Gurung claims Soaltee crown

Kathmandu, April 23

Dhiraj Gurung won the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Annual Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, Gurung won the trophy on count back after he was tied 37 points with Sanjay Paudel, who ended as runner-up. Pratima Sherpa won the women’s section title with 35 points, while Kalyami Moktan came second with 33 points.

Major General Ram Bahadur claimed the senior category trophy with 30 points, while Rajandra Man Sherchan finished second with 29 points. Mikhail Lari won the guest section title with 32 points, while Pradeep Shrestha finished second with 30 points.

Gopal Chitrakar claimed the gross section title with 31 points and he also bagged the closest-to-the-pin award. Mithun Rai, who carded four birdies, received the most birdies award. Lt Col Dipankar Rajaram received the longest drive award, while RR Pandey received the best sportsmanship prize. Bijay Bahadur Shrestha was the best golfer among the five-star hotel participants with 32 points, while Hari Bahadur Shrestha received the title of 18 years of Crowne Plaza with 31 points.

The winners, runners-up and the individual title winners were awarded with trophies and gift hampers from Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Hotel Yak & Yeti, Hotel Radisson, Shangrila Hotel, Hotel Annpurna, Holiday Inn Cohin and Rum Doodle.

Nepal SBI Bank is the title sponsor of the tournament, while Oman Air, Jacobs Creek and Tensberg, Toyota and Royal Nepal Golf Club are the other partners.
