Gurung passes away

KATHMANDU: Former president of All Nepal Football Association Chandra Bahadur Gurung passed away in the United States on Sunday, the football governing body confirmed.

He was undergoing treatment of ulcer. He was 61. Gurung was at the helm of ANFA during 1989-90 when current president Ganesh Thapa, general Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan and treasurer Birat Jung Shahi were the members of the national team. Gurung was also the member of National Sports Council before taking over the ANFA.

“We are extremely saddened by the death of Gurung, who has contributed a lot in the development of Nepali football. ANFA extends its heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prays for the peace of the departed soul,” Thapa said in a release issued by the ANFA. Gurung is survived by a wife, son and daughter.
