Hooligans rock Dasharath Stadium

Kathmandu, December 11:

Mahendra Police Club defeated defending champions Carlsberg Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) 3-0 in a tensed match while NIBL Friends Club registered a 2-0 victory over Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League here today.

Some rowdy MMC fans disrupted the second match at the Dasharath Stadium after MPC took a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute. The fans at the western parapit threw chairs at the pitch bringing the match to halt for more than half an hour.

The incident began after Parbat Pandey scored the second goal for MPC on rebound after MMC goalkeeper Sangeet Rajak blocked Hari Khadka’s spot kick. MPC was awarded the penalty after Rajak brought down Khadka inside the danger zone. After protesting the penalty for several minutes, MMC players stopped the match after Pandey scored the goal. They said that Pandey had committed foul before scoring the goal.

MMC skipper Tashi Tsering, who complained of the waterlogged pitch, denied to continue and was replaced by Tilak Gurung in the 72nd minute when the match resumed after 32 minutes.

The organisers continued the match from the point it was stopped adding 18 minutes.

MPC scored their third goal in the 77th minute through Jumanu Rai, who headed home on Hari Khadka’s pass. Earlier, the policemen took a lead in the 62nd minute when Arjun Rijal netted an easy goal after MMC goalkeeper Rajak fumbled Bhola Silwal’s cross.

In the first match, Friends took a lead in the 16th minute through Utsav KC’s easy goal following a pass from Nilendra Dewan. Nur Raj Kafle doubled the lead in the 84th minute through a header on Chandra Tamang’s corner.

JYC played the last 10 minutes, including six-minute injury time, were reduced to 10 men after Akash Chhantyal earned second yellow card for back tackling Raj Kumar KC in the 86th minute.
