KATHMANDU: Indra Mahata of Nepal APF Club and Nabin Shrestha of Tribhuvan Army Club advanced to the second round of the third Open National Badminton Tournament here on Thursday. Mahata defeated Gyaljen Sherpa of Dhumbari 21-10, 21-5, while Shrestha beat Sugan Thapa of Samakhushi 21-11, 21-8 in the first round matches. In men’s doubles, Ganesh Rayamajhi and Bishwas Nepal made it to the second round along with Joseph Adhikari and Suman Limbu. Likewise, the pairs of Birendra Thapa/Bina Pun and Bishnu Katuwal/Anusha Rai won their first round matches. Earlier, National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista inaugurated the tournament organized by Gangata Youth Club. The tournament features five events and carries a total cash purse of Rs 550,000.
