Match postponed

MOSCOW: A Russian league match between CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg has been postponed because there are not enough police officers to provide security at the match, Premier League bosses said on Friday. The match was scheduled for CSKA’s stadium on Saturday but because the Russian Orthodox Easter will be celebrated throughout the country this weekend the interior ministry called it off. It said too many police officers would be on duty at religious events to be able to provide security at the match.

Balotelli back in team

ROME: Teenage Italian striker Mario Balotelli has been welcomed back into the Inter Milan first team fold after issuing a public apology on the club’s website. Balotelli, 19, had been left out of the last five match-day squads following an altercation that has been shrouded in secrecy. The only definite thing known was that Balotelli had to apologise in order to be welcomed back. Up until now everyone connected with Inter Milan and this affair have remained tight-lipped over what exactly went on with the controversial youngster.

Shack name Lance

PARIS: Seven-time Tour de France Lance Armstrong has been named in his Radio Shack squad for a rare participation at the Belgian one-day classic the Tour of Flanders on Sunday. It will 38-year-old Armstrong’s first participation in a major one-day classic this season after he pulled out on the eve of Milan-SanRemo two weeks ago with a stomach bug. Armstrong, who finished third in last year’s Tour de France on what was his return to the sport after a three-year hiatus, raced at last weekend’s Criterium International in Corsica. After Sunday’s race the Texan is scheduled to race the Circuit de la Sarthe in France.

Adlington sets record

SHEFFIELD: Britain’s double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington set the fastest 800m freestyle of the season on Thursday as she stormed to victory at the British Championships. The 21-year-old finished in 8min 21.95sec — almost 13sec ahead of second-placed Sasha Matthews. It put her at the top of the world rankings, 0.88sec inside the time set by Australian Katie Goldman at their Commonwealth trials. .
