Invitational Boxing Championship in January

Boshigaun Sports Club is organising the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championship in Chandragiri Municipality on January 9-10, next year.
Players from Nepal, India and Bhutan will take part in the championship that features 11 weight categories — seven in men’s and four in women’s sections, informed the organisers at a press meet on Thursday. Each weight category will have four players and they will compete in semi-finals directly.
“Players from Haryana will represent India, while Bhutan national team and two teams from Nepal will compete in the competition,” said Olympian boxer Deepak Maharjan, who is also the President of Boshigaun Sports Club. “At a time when there are no much international event, the championship will give much-needed exposure to the Nepali boxers,” he added.
“We are organising this event in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake in 2015, including my mother Indramaya Maharjan,” said the Asian Games medallist. “I am grateful to main sponsor of the event, Machhindra Brick Kiln and all others who have extended their support for the championship,” said Maharjan, who is also the Member of Nepal Boxing Association.
The men’s section features 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg and 75kg weight categories, while the women’s section will have 48kg, 51kg, 54kg and 60kg weight categories. Top three boxers in all sections will get Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Nepal Boxing Association President Ram Awale lauded the efforts of Bosigaun Sports Club in organising the championship and thanked the sponsors for their support.
