Ireland to host T20 qualifiers

Belfast, June 12:

Two spots at the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup are on the line when Ireland host a six-team qualifying tournament in August.

Ireland, who have one governing body embracing players from the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland, are seeded No 1 and will be in Group A with Scotland and Bermuda for the August 2-4 tournament in Belfast.

Kenya are the top seed in Group B, which also features Netherlands and Canada. The top two teams will qualify for the Twenty20 World Cup next year in England, joining the 10 Test nations.

Scotland and Kenya played in the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa last year. India won the first World Cup, sparking a boom in the most condensed version of international cricket.
