Itahari to host biggest football tournament from Dec 30

Rastriya Jagriti Club is organising the International Invitational Madan Bhandari Memorial Itahari Gold Cup from December 30.

A total of 10 teams, including clubs from India, Bhutan and Bangladesh, will take part in the tournament to be played at the proposed Regional Stadium in Itahari, informed the organisers at a press meet.

The winners of the tournament will receive Rs 1.1 million, the highest cash purse in Nepali football. The runners-up will get Rs 500,000. President Bidhya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to inaugurate the tournament.

The estimated budget of the tournament is Rs 10 million. “We will collect amounts from Madan Bhandari Memorial Foundation, Youth and Sports Ministry and National Sports Council along with local sponsors for the tournament,” said Rastriya Jagriti Club President Sanjip Dhungana.

The best player of the tournament will receive Rs 25,000 along with 32-inch LED Television, while the man of the match will get Rs 10,000. The emerging player from Itahari will be awarded with 24-inch LED TV, informed the organisers. The tournament replaced Dan Bahadur Memorial Itahari Tuborg Gold Cup, organised by Rastriya Jagriti Club for the last 11 years.
