Jaiswal, Khumbu win

Kathmandu, October 31:

Roshan Kumar Jaiswal of North Point Academy won the Junior National Chess Championship organised by Nepal Chess Association today.

Played under the Swiss League format, Jaiswal claimed the championship with 6.5 points followed by fellow schoolmate Rupesh Kumar Jaiswal (5.5) and Man Madan Kayastha of Sharada Higher Secondary School (five points).

Likewise, Asian Games bound Monalisa Khumbu of North Point Academy claimed the girls’ championship. Khumbu beat Uttara Gautam of AVM in the rapid system after a tie in the double round-robin system. Shanta Thapa of Deep Jyoti finished third.

The winners in both the categories will represent Nepal in the Asian Junior Chess Championship scheduled for November 7-15 in New Delhi. The NCA vice-president Arun Shrestha gave away prizes to the winners. Legendary Nepali marathoner Baikuntha Manandhar was also present on the occasion.
