Janakpur, Dhangadhi, APF make it two in row

CHITWAN/POKHARA: Region-VII (Janakpur), Region-IX (Dhangadhi) and Nepal APF Club continued their winning streaks, while Region-III (Kathmandu) registered their first win in the Prime Minister Cup Women’s National Cricket Tournament on Thursday.

Janakpur registered a 58-run victory over Region-IV (Bhairahawa), while Dhangadhi defeated Region-VI (Baitadi) by seven wickets at the Campachaur grounds in Chitwan.

In the first match of the day, Janakpur scored 117-7 in 20 overs. Mamta Chaudhary top scored for the team with 34 runs off 32 balls that included three fours. Player-of-the-match Anuradha Chaudhary scored 25 off 33 balls. Alisha Chhetri claimed two wickets, while Barsha Rana Magar, Sima Thapa and Indu Barma took a wicket each.

In reply, Bhairahawa were restricted for 59-7 in 20 overs. Aashna Thapa was the scorer for Bhairahawa with 12 runs. Shanti Chaudhary took two wickets for Janakpur, while Saraswoti Chaudhary, Santoshi Chaudhary, Anuradha Chaudhary and Kabita Gautam claimed a wicket apiece.

In the second match, Baitadi opted to bat first and scored 73-8 in 20 overs. Anjali Chand top scored for the team with 19 runs, while the remaining batters failed to reach double-figure mark. Janaki Bhatta grabbed two wickets for Dhangadhi, while Kavita Joshi, Kavita Kunwar, Sonu Khadka and Nirmala Shahi took a wicket each. In reply, Dhandadhi made 74-3 in 11 overs. Kavita Joshi made run-a-ball 25, while Nirmala Shahi remained unbeaten on 23 runs.

In the matches played in Pokhara, Kathmandu registered a nine-wicket victory over Region-VIII (Pokhara), while APF beat Region-V (Nepalgunj) by 13 runs under parabola method.

In a rain-affected 10-over-a-side match, Pokhara managed to score 24-8. In reply, Kathmandu raced to 27-1 in just five overs. Sandhya Upreti was the pick of the Kathmandu bowlers claiming three wickets, while Ashmina Karmacharya grabbed two. Ashmita Kharel and Feeta Chudal took a wicket apiece.

In another rain-affected match, APF made 87-6 in 20 overs despite losing early wickets. Sarita Magar remained unbeaten on 26 off 44 balls, while Jyoti Pandey scored 22 off 32 balls. Pratikshya GM claimed three wickets, while Sharmila Magar and Trishna Singh took a wicket apiece for Nepalgunj. In reply, Nepalgunj had scored 69-7 before the match was called off due to rain.

Mamta Thapa and Manisha Rawal scored 15 runs each for Nepalgunj, while Rubina Chhetri claimed three wickets for APF.
