Jeevan Ram Shrestha elected president for NOC

LALITPUR: Jeevan Ram Shrestha has been elected president for Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) in the voting held at Elective General Assembly today.

Shrestha (ski) mustered 17 votes to beat Umesh Lal Shrestha (hockey) who got 10 votes in the election that took place in presence of representatives from International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia, at NOC building in Satdobato, Lalitpur.

Jyoti Rana (tennis), Chatura Nanda Rajvaidhya (table tennis), Tej Gurung (handball), Ashok Bajracharya (swimming) and Sunil Shrestha (fencing) were elected vice-presidents for NOC. Other candidates for vice-presidents — Puspa Das Shrestha (shooting), Shamim Miya Ansari (wrestling) and Rajeev Shrestha (rafting) — lost.

Likewise, Nilendra Raj Shresth (triathlon) was elected secretary-general. He mustered 15 votes to defeat Purendra Bikram Lakhe (karate) who got only 12 votes. Pitambar Timsina (athletics) was unanimously elected deputy secretary-general.

Similarly, Deepak Harsha Bajracharya (judo), Ramji Bahadur Shrestha (badminton) and Kumari Tulasi Thapa (kabaddi) were elected secretaries for the NOC. Former Member Secretary of National Sports Council Keshab Kumar Bista (wushu) lost by one vote in the election for the post of secretary.

Ratan Kumar Tandan (weight Lifting) was elected treasurer unopposed.

Other elected members are Dirgha Bahadur KC (football), Prakash Shumsher Rana (taekwondo), Tashi Ghale (golf), Ramesh Shiwakoti (archery), Gopal Sundar Lal Kakshapati (cycling), Hom Dong (basketball) and Ram Awale (boxing). Manoranjan Raman Sharma (volleyball) is the lone loser among eight candidates. He lost with eight votes.
