Rai, Shrestha win gold medals in table tennis

Karan Rai and Deepika Shrestha of Kathmandu University won the gold medals in table tennis tournament under the second PM Cup University Games here at the Lainchaur covered hall today.
Rai won all three matches of the super league played among four players to claim men’s singles gold medal. Bhabuk Joshi of Tribhuvan University bagged silver medal after winning two matches, while Bibek Kawa of Pokhara University and Roshan Chaulagain of Far-west University finished joint third. Karan Rai, who teamed up with Yugesh Rai, also won men’s doubles gold medal after beating Pokhara’s Bibek Kawa and Deepak Giri 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7.
In women’s category, Shrestha of Kathmandu University also won all three matches to win the gold medal, while her teammate Ishika Regmi won two matches to claim silver. Nisha Shrestha and Divya Shrestha of Agriculture and Forestry University claimed bronze medals.
In women’s doubles, Shrestha teamed up with Ishika Regmi to win gold as the pair defeated Nisha Shrestha and Divya Shrestha of Agriculture and Forestry 11-3, 11-8, 11-6.
In Badminton, Tribhuvan University’s Jeevan Acharya and Amita Giri of Pokhara won the singles title. In the men’s section final, Acharya defeated his teammate Nir Bikram Devkota 21-18, 21-13. Acharya teamed up with Devkota to claim the doubles category gold. Similarly, Amita Giri of Pokhara defeated Ganga Bista of Far-west 24-22, 21-8 in the women’s singles final. Giri also claimed the doubles title along with Soni Gupta.
In Volleyball, Mid-west, Far-west, Kathmandu, and Tribhuvan University advanced to the men’s category semi-finals. TU defeated Purbanchal University 25-11, 25-18 before beating Far-west 25-11, 25-22 to advance to the last four.
In other matches, Pokhara beat Sanskrit 25-13, 25-10, Kathmandu came from a set down to defeat Sanskrit 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, Purbanchal outplayed Agriculture and Forestry 25-23, 22-25, 25-14 and Mid-west saw off Pokhara 25-13, 25-15 to make it to the semis.
