Karki to represent Nepal in World Championships
KATHMANDU, August 15
National record holder Dil Maya Karki is all set to represent Nepal in the 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships scheduled for August 22-30 in Beijing, China.
Karki — who will compete in 400m race on August 24 — will be accompanied by athletics chief coach Sushil Narshing Rana. They will leave for China on August 20.
Karki holds the national record of 58.5 seconds in 400m race. She was selected on the basis of her performance in the 40th National Athletics Championship, informed Rana. Karki had won four golds and a silver medal in the championship.
Karki said that her target in the championship would be to break the national record. “I have trained hard for the championship and I’m confident of breaking my own record in Beijing,” said Karki.
Coach Rana said Karki was doing well in training. “Her timing in training is good and we can expect a new national record from her in the championship,” he said.
President of Nepal Athletics Association Rajiv Bikram Shah and General Secretary Sunil Rajbanshi will leave for Beijing on Sunday. Shah, who is also a CA Member, and Rajbanshi will take part in the elective congress of International Association of Athletics Federations to be held from August 18-20.
